BENRUS
GG-W-113
U.S. Military Pilots
Wrist Watch
Vietnam War

Issued on June 6, 1967, the GG-W-113 was the U.S. Government's longest running specifications for the wrist watch issued to its military pilots. "This specification highlighted the U.S. military's need for a legible, accurate and durable timepiece for use in active combat situations."

These watches were produced between 1967 and the late 1980’s by American watchmakers: Benrus, Hamilton, and Marathon. The GG-W-113 were utilized most commonly in the Vietnam War, but may also have been deployed in conflicts within the Persian Gulf and other middle eastern theatres.

All of these watches will bear case back markings with contract type, federal stock number, manufacturing part number, contract number, manufacture month and year, and serial number.

In addition to the military issue GG-W-113, Benrus also produced a civilian version that is known to collectors as the “Bullit”. The “Bullit” was famously worn by Steve McQueen in the 1968.

Today, we are presenting this stunning timepiece, a GG-W-113 Benrus wrist watch, dated from October 1974. It is a manual wind watch, 17 jewels movement, hacking mechanism, Swiss made. It is also shock resistant, waterproofness and antimagnetic. It has a perfect black dial with 12 hours in Arabic Numerals, an inner ring marking 24-hour time, and a 60-increment seconds index with darts indicating the hour positions. Also, luminous hands using radioactive.

The case is also almost perfect, it is a round stainless steel case with a matte or parkerized finish. "Parkerization is a method of protecting a steel surface from corrosion through the application of a chemical phosphate conversion." Perfect in extreme weather and under heavy use. As the original, this watch is coming with a Vintage green Nylon strap.

It is an extremely well kept Benrus military watch, it is in excellent condition. A true 9/10, with 10 being “brand new, unworn”. For any collector of Benrus, or vintage Gold timepieces in general, this would be a piece to hold in your collection and be proud of. The watch itself is what I would refer to as “Museum Quality”.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men's watches typically measure between 29-36mm (some larger, some smaller) wide excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women's watches from the 1900s-1970s were also somewhat smaller than today’s offerings in many cases. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust light, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
See all the photos, feel free to ask questions if you have any.

It will be carefully packed.

About BENRUS Watch Co.

Benrus Watch Company was an American company, founded in New York City in 1921 by three brothers: Oscar, Benjamin and Ralph; Romanian immigrants. The name "BENRUS" was a combination of Benjamin Lazrus first and last names. Hence "BEN"jamin laz"RUS".

Since it's invention in the 16th century the only choice in watches was the pocket watch.  But in the early 1900's watch manufacturers and jewelers were soldering solid lugs to small pocket watches, adding straps, and wearing them on the wrist.  A new type of watch was born; the wristwatch.  The wristwatch gained very quickly in popularity, to the point that by the early 1920's worldwide pocket watch manufacture and sales were on the decline.  It was at that time that three young brothers saw an opportunity to begin a wristwatch company that produced moderately priced watches for the common-man; BENRUS.
